An Introduction

OMID (امید)
Translation: HOPE

At the start of 2018 I had it all. A good job, a gorgeous baby girl called Ava, and my husband, Omid, who I knew would love me until the end of time. The road wasn’t always smooth, but it was steady and all laid out ahead of us as we walked hand in hand. On 15th January 2018, everything changed when I came home from work to discover my husband had taken his own life. And just like that, my future, and the path towards it were erased. I stood in a desert, unsure which way to go, or where I should be heading. Days passed, weeks, months. I moved house, changed jobs (twice), just kept putting one foot in front of the other in the hope that I would find a new path, towards a new destination for my one year old daughter and me. But nothing felt right. I was trying to fill an Omid-shaped hole with things that just didn’t fit.

18 months later, I still don’t know where we are going. But on a recent camping trip with a friend I had an epiphany.. with no mortgage, no husband and no fixed employment, we could go anywhere… Suddenly the wilderness I found myself wandering felt less threatening and more inviting, and I resolved to grab a map and explore. So here I am, on the precipice of an epic adventure in search of healing, happiness and HOPE, and I invite you to join me..
